The UVSP’s mission on-campus is to re-conceptualize and re-claim sustainability. We seek to honestly acknowledge and address the exclusionary roots of environmentalism and root our work on-campus in intersectionality and anti-colonial frameworks. We encourage all students who feel that their perspectives are not represented in contemporary understandings and activations of sustainability to apply for this position and be a part of our work on-campus. Working towards sustainability means working towards intersectional justice, and safe, diverse, learning-oriented, accessible, and welcoming communities must come first to support this work.

A-C Barrios-Stewart  (They/Them)

UVSP Coordinator

A-C recently completed their undergrad degree in Geography and Environmental Studies with a minor in Digital Media in the arts. They grew up on Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh and Musqueam territories, in so-called "East Vancouver." They are Guatemalan on their mother's side and have Scottish ancestry on their father's side. They love a good cup of coffee, listening to folktales, and looking at cool creatures in tidepools!

The goals of UVSP of reconceptualizing sustainability align deeply with A-C's values. A-C has been involved in different activist movements for over two decades, growing up with the understanding that environmental justice and human rights are intrinsically intertwined, and the importance of local to international solidarity. A-C's passion for sustainability lies within community and relationships, human and otherwise.
