Ripples Youth Art Zine

An arts zine showcasing visual and written works that celebrate a shared love of, and connection to, water — all created by kids and youth between the ages of 6 and 30 to celebrate World Water Day.

Ripples 2024

Ripples is an annually released digital art zine featuring youth artwork, photography, poetry, and prose celebrating World Water Day. The first edition of Ripples was created for World Water Day 2021.

World Water Day happens on March 22nd every year. It was started by the United Nations in 1993 to celebrate water and raise awareness of global water issues.

The organizations behind Ripples believe young people, particularly youth artists, photographers, and writers, are creating ripples in the world of water through artistic celebration, stewardship, governance, and the celebration of Earth's water systems, which we as humans, as well as every other creature on Earth are connected to and a part of.
Check out this video about Ripples 2023 for more information about the zine!

The history of Ripples

Ripples began in 2021 as a collaboration between the Canadian Freshwater Alliance, Cowichan Valley Earth Guardians Crew, and POLIS Water Sustainability Project.

In 2022, the University of Victoria Sustainability Project, joined the collaboration and Ripples was released for the second time. In the summer of 2022, the Canadian Freshwater Alliance closed its doors, but like many other projects that have originated within the organization, Ripples will live on through new collaborations and partnerships — and through the beautiful and vibrant works created by young people to celebrate their watersheds.

Between the ages of 6-30 and interested in contributing to Ripples in 2023? Check back on this page in December 2022 or follow us on Instagram for updates on when submissions open!
